THeMIS: The Unmanned Combat Technology Being Tested by America

The U.S. Army is testing the THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) — a next-generation robotic platform developed by Milrem Robotics from Estonia. Designed for mobility, fire support, and logistics, the THeMIS could redefine how soldiers operate on the battlefield. In 2025, the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) began evaluating the vehicle’s performance in Arctic conditions, testing its endurance, hybrid engine, and autonomous systems. This experiment marks another step in America’s push toward robotic and autonomous warfare, aiming to keep soldiers safe while enhancing combat effectiveness.
